TEXTURED GEOMEMBRANE WITH GRIP: STEEP SLOPE LINING MADE SIMPLE

Textured HDPE geomembrane with engineered surface grip for steep slope lining — friction angles up to 35 degrees, co-extruded asperity height 0.25–1.0 mm. Single or double-sided texture, GRI-GM13 certified. Get a quote.

WHY SMOOTH LINERS SLIP — AND TEXTURED LINERS STAY PUT

If you have ever watched cover soil slough down a 2H:1V slope after a rain event, you already know the problem: smooth geomembranes have interface friction angles of only 12–18 degrees against clay and geotextile. That is not enough.

Our textured geomembrane is manufactured by co-extrusion with nitrogen gas, creating a consistent, uniform asperity pattern across the entire surface. The result is an interface friction angle of 28–35 degrees — more than double the grip of a smooth liner — which means your slope stays stable without expensive anchorage trenches or excessive earthworks.

CO-EXTRUDED vs IMPINGED: WE CHOOSE THE BETTER METHOD

There are two ways to make textured geomembrane: impingement (spraying molten polymer onto the surface) and co-extrusion (forcing two layers through a single die with gas bubbling the top layer). Impingement produces inconsistent texture depth and can weaken seam quality.

We use co-extrusion exclusively. It delivers uniform asperity height, preserves core thickness, and ensures every square meter performs identically. The textured layer and the core are one continuous sheet — not a coating that can delaminate.

SINGLE-SIDED OR DOUBLE-SIDED: PICK THE RIGHT CONFIGURATION

For most landfill side slopes and reservoir embankments, single-sided texture (rough on the side facing the cover soil or geotextile) is sufficient. The smooth side interfaces with the underlying GCL or compacted clay subgrade.

For applications where both sides need grip — such as a liner sandwiched between two soil layers, or a vertical retaining wall system — our double-textured geomembrane provides friction on both surfaces without compromising tensile strength.

Available thicknesses: 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm, 3.0 mm. Custom widths up to 8 meters.

PROVEN ON SLOPES UP TO 2H:1V

Across 14 countries and over 200 installed projects, our textured geomembrane has been the specified solution for:

▸ Landfill side slopes and final caps (steepest section: 1.8H:1V)

▸ Mining tailings dam embankments exposed to acidic leachate (pH 2.3)

▸ Reservoir and irrigation pond embankments on compacted clay

▸ Tunnel waterproofing systems where texture improves concrete bonding

▸ Retaining wall barriers and coastal erosion control structures

In direct shear testing per ASTM D5321, our 2.0 mm textured HDPE achieved a peak friction angle of 30 degrees against nonwoven geotextile and 28 degrees against GCL — outperforming smooth liner controls by 55% or more.

INSTALLATION MADE SIMPLE

Slope lining does not have to be complicated. Our textured geomembrane installs with the same equipment and welding procedures as smooth HDPE — no special tools required.

Key installation guidelines:

▸ Panel orientation: place textured side facing the cover soil or drainage layer

▸ Seam overlap: minimum 100 mm for dual-track fusion welding

▸ Weld testing: air channel pressure test (250 kPa, 5-minute hold)

▸ Anchor trenches: reduced depth thanks to higher interface friction — typically 0.4 m instead of 0.6 m

▸ Welding temperature: 280 – 320°C depending on ambient conditions

Every order includes a printed installation manual and on-call technical support. For projects above 20,000 m² we dispatch an engineer to site for pre-installation training and weld testing.

HOW TO SPECIFY THE RIGHT TEXTURED LINER

Three questions get you the right product:

What is your slope angle? (We match asperity height to your grade)

Which side needs grip — one or both? (Single vs double texture)

What chemicals will the liner contact? (We confirm formulation compatibility)

Send us your slope drawings or site photos. We will recommend thickness, texture configuration, and anchorage details within 24 hours — free of charge, with no obligation.

Sample swatches (15 cm × 15 cm) are shipped free for laboratory friction testing. Full-width trial panels (1 m × 8 m) are available at cost for field installation testing before you place a full order.
